Objective: To analyse the clinical characteristics and prognosis ofbilateral primary breast cancer(BPBC) and to explore its incidence andprognostic factors. Methods: The retrospective data of34BPBC patients were collectedat the first affiliated hospital of chongqing medical university from January2006to December2012. These retrospective data, includingClinicopathlogical characteristics, prognostic factors, disease-free survival(DFS) and overall survival(OS), were analysed by SPSS.Results: In our study, there were2998cases of breast cancer, newlydiagnosed, in our hospital.34patients were diagnosed as bilateral primarybreast cancer, accounting for1.13%of all the patients, in which17(0.57%)patients were diagnosed as metachronous BPBC (mBPBC group) and17(0.57%) patients were diagnosed as synchronous BPBC (sBPBC group). We compared the mBPBC group with the sBPBC group in the followingfactors: age, menstruation, reproductive history, family history, TNM stage, histological type, the expression of hormone receptor and Her-2. Therewere no statistical significances in these factors(P>0.05), excepted for one factor: the TNM stage in the first beast cancer side. With theKaplan-Meier to analyze the cancer survival, the result shows that the OSwas61.7%. There were the statistical significances neither in estimatedDFS (52.4%and43.9%, respectively, at5years) nor in estimated OS(66.7%and60.4%, respectively, at5years) between the two groups.Analyzing the prognostic factors by Cox regressive mode, the results ofunivariate analysis showed that the TNM stages in both breast cancer sides, the hormone receptors and Her-2of the second side were the importantprognostic factors for the BPBC. Then compared these prognostic factorsof the two groups, the result showed that the earlier the TNM stages were, the higher survivals the patients would have; and the patients with ER/PRnegative or Her-2positive had lower survivals. The results of multivariateanalysis showed that ER/PR negative and Her-2positive play an importantrole in the prognosis of the patients. Conclusion:There were no statistical significances in DFS or OSbetween sBPBC and mBPBC. The TNM stage, the expression of ER/PRand Her-2maybe the prognostic factors.
