Background:Deciduous caries is one of the most common diseases among the children; it is one of the most important diseases with emphasis of prevention and treatment identified by the World Health Organization. The children under5year old with deciduous caries prevalence was66.0%, among which97.1%of the teeth them are not treated, and per capita with dmft of3.5teeth in China. Prevention of deciduous dental caries is essential for the children’s dental health. Susceptibility is one of the important factors of deciduous caries. Thus, identification of the dental caries susceptibility factors has attracted considerable attentions and has been the focus of preventive measurements for the deciduous caries. It is carried out mainly by epidemiological investigation and laboratory testing. Most epidemiological investigation studies on children deciduous caries were limited to the one survey. Time is one of the important quadruple factors, only one time survey often led to bias. In this study, we followed the caries for consecutive three years to explore susceptibility in order to avoid the bias. The caries status quo reflects children’s oral environment and cariogenic bacteria, and through the analysis of the status quo to study prediction of future new dental caries. There are very few studies done with this fashion.Glycosyltransferase plays an important role in the process of cariogenic bacteria adhesion to the teeth, quantitative detection of its activity to determine whether this is one of the susceptible factors for the caries. There is also rare literature in study whether making the caries susceptible laboratory parameters through cariogenic bacteria adhesion, which plays a major role in the process of tooth. Objectives1. To explore the caries process, whether there is a correlation between the different teeth.2. We established assay for the oral glycosyltransferase activity to access the relationship between the activity of this enzyme in dental caries.Methods1.With cluster random sampling method,305children with3-5year-old in Changsha were extracted using the oral examination standards of the third national oral epidemic sample survey and followed up for three consecutive years between2009to2011. Several analysis were carried out in order to establish the mathematical model for association of current caries status and new caries, these analysis included:analysis of caries status quo associated with new caries was made with analysis of variance in studying on the children associated with caries; the analysis of variance of two laboratory test results associated with caries susceptibility; it also checked out the permanent teeth caries analysis, to explore the association with deciduous caries.2. The children were divided into three groups according to dmft sample, that is, caries-free (dmft=0), low caries group (1≤dmft≤4), high caries group (dmft>4). The oral glucose transferase activity assay was carried out among25children randomly. At the same time and the same subject was tested by resazurin strips.Results1. Stage3to4years,4to5years old stage children the new caries incidence was28%, no significant difference.4to5years old stage a new increase in the number of four or more teeth accounted for25%of the new caries number is3years old to4-year-old stage children1.5times.2. Directed with graph model, the caries dental association model was established. We predicted two groups of teeth as quasi-warning teeth using application model, they are51and61,75and85, respectively. Verification quasi-warning teeth found that early warning is statistically significant among children with3year old age, which is 13.4times higher than the normal group in51,61group;6.5times higher in75or85any one carious mind positive and15.7times higher if both group of warning teeth positive.3. Glucosyl transferase activity was significantly higher in high-caries group than the caries-free and low caries groups; no statistically significant differences were found between the low caries and caries-free group.Conclusions1. Caries incidence, speed and the number of new onset of carries teeth increase with the age. There is a certain correlation between the different teeth. Teeth51,61,75,85can early warning deciduous caries susceptibility.2. The study established that oral glycosyltransferase activity assay and traditional Resazurin of detection method are feasible laboratory tests to assess for the caries susceptibility; oral glucose transferase activity test results predict the new caries in children.
