ObjectiveNon-surgical treatment of chronic periodontitis can change existingperiodontal status of teeth to prevent periodontal disease, but have nosignificant effect on the periodontal support tissue regeneration and recovery. Inthis study,low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) is used as adjunctive therapyafter non-surgical treatment on moderate or server chronic periodontitis, and itsclinical effects will be observed.Method44patients with moderate or severe periodontitis were randomly dividedinto two groups after ultrasonic polishing: scaling and root planning (SRP) plusLIPUS for14days (22sites of experimental group) and SRP without LIPUS (22sites of control group). All clinical parameters including probing depth (PD),bleeding index (BI), tooth mobility (TM) were recorded before treatment and3and6months after treatment. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) weretaken to evaluate alveolar bone height (ABH) and alveolar bone density(ABD).Result1、The PD、BI、TM、ABD of experimental group all showed a significantimprovement after3and6months of treatment (P<0.05); the ABH did notchange significantly than before (P>0.05). And each index after3and6monthsof treatment had no obvious difference.2、The PD、BI、TM of control group all showed a significant improvenmentafter3and6months of treatment (P<0.05); the ABD、 ABH did not changesignificantly than before (P>0.05). And each index after3and6months of treatment had no obvious difference.3、 The PD、 BI、 MD、 ABH had no significant difference betweenexperimental group and control group after3and6months of treatment;but theABD of experimental group was significantly increased compared with controlgroup.ConclusionLIPUS is safe and effective for treatment of chornic periodontitis asadjunctive therapy, IT can improve the periodontal ststus of teeth and increasedensity of alveolar bone. AND mechanism、time、observation of LIPUS in clinicaltreatment need further study.
