Objective:To compare the enhanced characteristics of renal lesionsbetween contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS) and contrast-enhancedhelical computed tomography(CECT). To explore the clinical evaluationof contrast-enhanced ultrasound in renal lesions. Methods:The CEUS and CECT examination data of85patients withrenal lesions treated in the China-Japan Union Hospital of JilinUniversity from August2011to December2013, compare thepathologic results of CEUS and CECT to postoperative pathologic resultsreferred as the diagnosis standard. All patients were proved by operationand pathology. Compare the results of two methods with X2test.Results:1. Among85renal lesions,65lesions were malignant, including50clear cell carcinomas,7papillary cell carcinomas,6chromophobe cellcarcinomas and2transitional cell carcinomas;20lesions were benign,including18renal angiomyolipomas and2renal cysts. Enhancementpatterns of CEUS and CECT in the majority of65renal malignant lesionsshowed “quick in quick out” and “hyper-enhanced”. The enhancementpatterns of the majority of20renal benign lesions showed “slow in slowout” and “hypo-enhanced” in CEUS and “quick in slow out” and“hypo-enhanced” in CECT.2. The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, false positive rate, false negative rate of CEUS were91.8%(78/85)、93.8%(61/65)、85.0%(17/20)、95.3%(61/64)、80.9%(17/21)、15.0%(3/20)、6.2%(4/65);the accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negativepredictive value, false positive rate, false negative rate of CECT were92.9%(79/85)、95.4%(62/65)、85.0%(17/20)、95.4%(62/65)、85.0%(17/20)、15.0%(3/20)、4.6%(3/65). There was no significantdifference between CEUS and CECT as a whole: the accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value were allP>0.05.Conclusions:1. CEUS and CECT showed consistent result indemonstrating enhancement patterns and enhanced signal intensity ofmalignant renal lesions.2. CEUS and CECT may also be of value inevaluating and differentiating renal lesions.3. CEUS’s applicability isstronger than CECT because of its low allergic of contrast media.
