Objective:Detection of serum cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) levels in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Analysis of the relationship between the COMP and RA, what is the purpose is to provide a certain basis for early detection, disease progression and evaluation of curative effect of RA.Methods:The serum level of COMP were measured in60RA patients and30healthy people through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The serum level of antibodies against cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP antibodies), C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and hands X-ray were examined. Recorded the gender, age, body mass index (BMI), duration, morning stiffness of time, tender joint count (TJC), swollen joint count (SJC).All the data was analyzed by statistical software SPSS19.0for windows. Measurement data was represented with mean±standard deviation and comparison between the two groups was represented with independent sample t-test. Chi-square test was used for the comparison of the enumeration data. P value <0.05was considered significant. Results:Significantly increased serum level of COMP was found in active patients (14.42±4.09)U/L as compared with that of the health controls (9.28±1.52)U/L (P<0.01). Significantly increased serum level of COMP was found in active patients (14.42±4.09)U/L as compared with that of the inactive disease (9.95±2.75)U/L (P<0.01). Significantly increased serum level of COMP was not found in the inactive disease as compared with that of the health controls (P=0.224). Hands X-ray stage Ⅱ patients were compared with patients with stage I and stage Ⅲ, the differences of serum level of COMP were statistically significant (P<0.05). With the increasing degree of radiographic staging, serum level of COMP increased. Conclusion:The high serum levels of COMP indicate high disease activity and early progressive of bone distruction in RA patients. The serum levels of COMP may be used as a marker for evaluation of curative effect of RA.
