Objective To systematically evaluate the effectiveness of shenmai injection for leukopenia a-fter the tumor radiation and chemotherapy. Methods Such databases as PubMed(1966to June2013),CochraneLibrary(Issue5,2013),Web of Science(1980to June2013),VIP(1989to June2013),WanFang Data(1990to June2013),CNKI(1980to June2013),CBM(1981to June2013)were searched to collect the randomized controlled trials(RCTs) on shenmai injection in treating leukopenia after the tumor radiation and che-motherapy.Document selection and data fetch and the quality of included studies was evaluated by two reviewers in-dependently,and then meta-analyses were performed using Review Manager5.2software and Stata12.0software.Results A total of eleven studies involving1009patients were included. Results of meta-analyses showed that when shenmai injection and normal oral drugs for rise leucocyte were used in the treatment of leukopenia after the tumor radiation and chemotherapy, significant differences were found in the significant effectiveness (RR=1.57,95%CI1.39to1.78,P<0.00001), ineffectiveness(RR=0.34,95%CI0.25to0.47,P<0.00001) and total effectiveness (RR=1.27,95%CI1.19to1.36,P<0.00001), but no significant difference was found in effectiveness(RR=0.90,95%CI0.74to1.09,P=0.27).The subgroup analyses were performed among different normal oral drugs showed that shenmai injection’s curative effect was better than normal oral drugs. Conclusion In the effectiveness of treatment for leukopenia after the tumor radiation and chemotherapy, the shenmai injection is superior to normal oral drugs. However, all these findings should be further confirmed with more large sample and well-designed RCTs.
