| BackgroundWith the innovation of clinical nursing management mode and development of nursing education, new requirements are brought forward for clinical nursing internship and teaching. How to achieve developing objectives for nursing undergraduates, carry out internship plan, implement standard and scientific internship, satisfy the internship needs of nursing undergraduates, and increase clinical teaching quality are the significant problems facing by current clinical nursing internship.ObjectivesTo investigate the current situation of clinical internship and teaching for the undergraduates in nursing, then analyze the existing problems, through half-structure interview with experts and literature review, finally quest for specific measures to provide reference and guidance for increasing the internship quality of undergraduates in nursing.Methods1.Using "the questionnaire of internship condition for undergraduates in nursing" and convenient sampling method to investigate156internship students and75clinical mentors in one three-Level teaching affiliate hospital and find the problems existing in this process;2.We take half-structure interview with15clinical nursing experts in Henan province, combining the evaluation and suggestions from these people to the internship and mentoring of undergraduates in nursing and literature review, finally form a strategy for internship and mentoring mode.3. From February to march in2013, we randomly select21undergraduate nursing students in the department of neurology from one of the hospitals investigated.The reform countermeasures are taken to them.The comparison of the result take Rank test。Results1. The average age of75mentors is (30.25±5.94) who have an average clinical working time (7.60±4.97) years, clinical mentoring average time (6.32±3.78) years, junior position78.67%, middle and senior position21.34%; the highest degree:bachelor degree72%, graduate4%;32people,42.67%, published more than1papers (including1papers);8%of mentors are involved in nursing projects.2. In the scoring of49items,17items<4, they are:"Plan arrangement for internship undergraduates in internship plan","Theoretical lecture on time, also practical and advanced","Plan on arranging and organizing checking rooms for internship undergraduates" and so on。The scores for mentors with different working years, teaching years, academics and titles have statistic difference (P<0.05); the mentors with good working and teaching experience, and high academics and titles have relatively higher scores.3.Five concepts are drawn from the half-structure interview with experts:①Make clear internship objectives and detailed mentoring plan to achieve hierarchical management;②Strict selection of mentors, increase the whole teaching level and pay attention to mentors cultivation;③Enhance training before internship, operate self-management of internship undergraduates and cultivate organizing and management and communication abilities;④Make innovative mentoring management system and optimize the responsibilities of all-level mentoring organizations;⑤Comprehensive evaluation of internship undergraduates, improve evaluation methods, and carry out judgment system for internship undergraduates.4.Combining the results of Literature study and half-structure interview, we proposed improvement measures, including mentoring plan and objectives, qualification requirement for mentors, mentoring procedure, mentoring management, and mentoring evaluation.5.The results from application show that after application, evaluation is better than before application in five dimensions:internship plan, mentoring abilities, undergraduates’ participation and practice, mentoring supervision and management, effect and evaluation (P<0.05)Conclusions1. Through surveys we found that there are limitations in clinical teaching plan, mentors’ qualification, teaching format, evaluation system for nursing students etc. On the current internship and teaching situation.2. Construct internship and mentoring preliminary framework which includes: mentoring plan and objectives, qualification requirement for mentors, mentoring procedure, mentoring management,and mentoring evaluation. |
