| According to theories of traditional Chinese medicine, the water-soluble constituents of Rhizoma pinelliae were studied with pharmacological and pharmacodynamical effect, thereby, the antiemetic and anti-inflammatory components were screened out, organic acid compounds of pinellia ternate were the main anti-emetic fraction, and non organic acid compounds were the anti-inflammatory fraction.1 Study on optimizing the extraction process of the water-soluble constituents of Rhizoma Pinelliae. The optimum extraction was made by the method of orthogonal test to ascertain the contents of the nucleosides. All results were summarized as follows: Rhizoma Pinelliae were refluxed in 6 times volume of 30% ethanol for 1 hour and 3 times.2 Selecting of anti-emetic fractions of water-soluble constituents from Rhizoma Pinelliae: two experiments were carried out to test which extract had anti-emetic activity such as bluestone and cisplatin induced pigeon’s emetic response. Butanol extract had anti-emetic effect in the first selection. According to the result of componential preliminary test, butanol extract contained organic acids, glucosides, and alkoloids, then weakly basic resin was used to separate organic acid and non organic acid compounds. Oganic acids are better than non organic acid compounds in the second selectin. So the organic acid compounds of Rhizoma Pinelliae are the main anti-emetic fraction.3 Selecting of anti-inflammatory fractions of water-soluble composition from Rhizoma Pinelliae: Three experiments were carried out as auris swell induced by dimethylbenzene in mice, penetration of capillary vessel in mice, and cotton ball-induced granuloma in mice. The results showed that the non organic acid compounds had significant inhibitory effects.4 Components analysis of anti-emetic constituents and anti-inflammatory constituents: Organic acid compounds were analyzed by GC-MS method. 19 kind of organic acids were detected in the Rhizoma Pinelliae which exchanged by resin D315-OH, and 14 kind of organic acids were detected in the Rhizoma Pinelliae which exchanged by resin D315-C1. A compound which similar to Citric acid was detected in the organic acids of Rhizoma Pinelliae by TLC.Five nucleosides were detected in the anti-inflammatory constituents, so the nucleosides were quantificated by RP-HPLC. The Rhizoma Pinelliae contained a total of 244-359μg·g-1 nueleosides as 22-45μg·g-1 uracil, 17-49μg·g-1 xanthine, 87-175μg·g-1 uridine, 6-17μg·g-1 inosine, and 70-127μg·g-1 guanosine.5 Study on anti- inflammatory effect with nucleosides.
