As a long neglected part in interpreting research, nonverbal message deservesmore attention for it is just as an important channel as verbal language incommunication. This paper analyzes the functions of nonverbal message incommunication on the basis of Poyatos’ theory and Kirchhoff’s model, and exploresthe ways to handle nonverbal message in interpreting by studying the case of MoYan’s press conference. The author then proposes a combination of a general strategyand specific measures to render nonverbal signals in the target language and culture.First, the interpreter should adopt a general strategy according to the listener’s culturalbackground and knowledge. Then in interpreting, specific techniques such asinterpreting verbally and nonverbally should be employed to suit different situations.
