This study investigates the influence of nonverbal information on mockconference simultaneous interpreting of interpreting trainees majored in Master ofTranslation and Interpreting. A variety of previous literature relevant to nonverbalinformation is reviewed while highlights are given to the paralanguage and kinesics.This research is a comparative study, with all subjects selected being MTIinterpreting trainees. Since information of kinesics is hard to be measured throughmerely audio material, the author divides the experiment into two parts to record SIoutput with and without visual access to nonverbal information delivered by thespeaker and the site. Through background preparation and word listing, on-siterecording, post-interview, transcription and afterwards analysis, the author tries tocompare simultaneous interpreting output of the eleven subjects concerning the mockconference, and to figure out whether there is any difference between interpretingoutput delivered with and without visual access to the speaker and the venue, and howdo such differences reflect the role of nonverbal information in simultaneousinterpreting.On the basis of all problems observed and concluded from the research, theauthor discusses the strategies for the application of nonverbal information in SItraining so as to offer some practical suggestions.
