A Study On The Cultural Connotattion Of The"Home" Motif In The Root-Seeking Literature

In the1980s, China is in the transitional period which is ranging like a storm. Therefore, the root-seeking literature, which is emerged and developed during this period, inevitably has a distinctive feature of the epoch and brims with all kinds of unstable factors. As it is one of the most important Literature Trends in the new period, literary critics always pay close attention to the Root-Seeking Literature. Its unique artistic charm makes literary critics have a more broad perspective on the corresponding study of criticism, such as modern reflection, questioning national character and oppugning traditional culture. However, with all kinds of perspectives on the study, it’s not difficult to find that the Root-Seeking literature criticism is always hard to get a real "thought landing point". Referring to nearly nine hundred papers about the research of root-seeking literature from CNKI, the author found that under the traditional and cultural propositions, there is a proposition which seems simple but has rich connotation. That is to explore the cultural implication of "home" as the motif in root-seeking literature, which is naturally related to "root-seeking discourse" system construction. And it can finally reflect the advantages of root-seeking writers’mode of thinking.With attempting to make "home" as the breakthrough point, and combining with writers’creative thinking and important texts, this paper fully show forms of "home" as the motif in the Root-Seeking Literature. Moreover, it also makes a detailed analysis of cultural features of "home" as the motif in the category of "root-seeking discourse" system construction. And then combined with the representative writers and their works of May Fourth Local Literature and The Beijing School Literature, the paper explores the literary origin and flowing deformation of "home" as the motif, and ponders over the influence of literary narrative used in "home" as the motif in the Root-Seeking Literature on the following new-period literature.From the form of the text structure and spiritual significance of the text, motif is the most basic components of narrative in literary works. It exists in dominant and recessive ways, which is rooted in the general experience of human’s life and daily life. With human’s long-term historical accumulation,"home" gradually becomes a motif in literature. As the most important literary motifs, it shows multi-layered psychological structure of national culture. When the root-seeking writers put their values and ideas into literary narrative with "home" as its motif, the cultural implication of "home" as the motif in the texts of root-seeking novels can be presented in various artistic forms. That is persevering and persisting the "spiritual garden of Eden" of human; reflecting and illuminating the human "Spiritual Paradise Lost"; and constantly pursuing and surpassing "on the road". To some extent, texts with "home" motif of Root-Seeking Literature imply the ideological essence of humanistic spirit and aspiration of writers’literary ideal in the literature ideological trend. These distinctive cases become an important part of "root-seeking discourse" system. The narrative of the root-seeking literature with "home" motif represents three main characteristics, namely imagery, deletion and tragic. Root-seeking writers with their creation technique make the novel with "home" motif existence in an image mode. Father’s absence leads to the lack of fatherly love, which draws forth the psychological exploration of "father on trial" and "seeking father". Thus the root-seeking literature "home" motif is covered with a layer of tragedy culture. In the late Root-Seeking Literature, represented by Mo Yan, the writers gradually turn to the folk standpoint in literary narrative, which has certain effect on the new realistic novels. The concept of literary creation has been well echoed in the writer Chi Zijian’s novels. Different styles of root-seeking cases demonstrate the root-seeking writers’thinking and aesthetic advantages, which make the rich cultural implication of literature with "home" motif has played a decisive role in making the intellectual continue the cultural root-seeking consciousness.
