On The Three-dimensional Binding And Layout Of Children’s Books

Book binding and layout dates back to the invention of paper and printing, when paper were sorted and bound in a volume for the convenience of reading. Since invented, book binding and layout seems to be defined in a planar level. To bring a graceful sense of imagery to reading, artists and scholars introduces illustrations to book binding and layout, so as to decorate books and create a special atmosphere. With the improvement of people’s aesthetic levels, there appears an innovative method--the three-dimensional binding and layout, which is accepted and favored by more and more people.However, a book has its own special cultural property when comes into being, which determines its binding and layout. Among various kinds of books, the interesting needs of children’s books and publications is the most remarkable, as illustrations and all sorts of creative bindings and layouts attracts special children groups, and they are more intuitionistic and effective communicating medium to children whose ability to understand is limited.Aiming at the special needs in the design of binding and layout of children’s books, this thesis studies creative and innovative designs which accord with children’s psychological and physiological features, analyses the manifestation and artistic features of three-dimensional binding and layout, and explores the innovative three-dimensional designs which stress the experiencing sense in children’s books’ bindings and layouts through creation, which helps reading as well as enlightening imagination and makes children’s books become children’s favorite companion.
