The Great artists,Qi Baishi and Picasso, who lived in the last century have made remarkable contributionto the development of painting art. With their unique artistic expression form, Qi Baishi and Picasso’spaintings vividly demonstrated two completely different world of art. Both of them were trying to find theirown way of painting based on study of traditional painting system.Unavoidably, Qi Baishi and Picasso havehad to face the failure and barriers on the way of pursuing.Furthermore, the negative critics from otherpainters have significantly impact on their individual development. However, due to the enthusiasm andconfidence towards art, Qi Baishi and Picasso’s works finally have been accepted by people and receivedtremendous popularity.Because his family income, Qi Baishi had no any opportunity to learn painting art until he was able towork to support himself. After that, through years of efforts,Qi Baishi created unique painting techniquebased on Chinese traditional painting methods.Picasso’s father was a art school teacher. He paid greatattention on Picasso’s study especially his performance on painting technique. Due to the his father’stutorial and Picasso’s efforts, he made a great progress on painting skill.In whole painting career, Picassoasserted that painting like other art forms required creativity and imagination.Sticking to the sophisticatedand traditional painting skill would negatively affect style and uniqueness from the work of art.It is clear that the topic of their works have similarities in many ways. Almost all of their original idealsof paintings come from their normal lives. In the paintings, items and people from their lives have beenexpressed by unique form of artistic expression.Qi Baishi and Picasso spend almost all of life time onimproving their individual painting skills and how to express the topics with abstract concept. At the end ofcareer, both of them have created school of painting,‘Honghuamoye’and ‘cubism’,which have becamecrucial part of modern art.On the way of their pursuing flawless painting works, Qi Baishi and Picasso havesame great enthusiasm but completely different direction. Compared with Picasso’s brutalism and cubism,Qi Baishi are more likely to find out quality of objects with warm-toned and low contrast. Moreover, thework of Qi Baishi’s consisted of storyline and details which is more understandable than the ones ofPicasso’s. However, although Qi Baishi and Picasso contended the new way for painting art should combine the traditional painting technique with new idea and skill, it is undeniable that traditional paintingsystem should be the basis of development of art painting.This research are divided into four parts.In the first part, the author researched and analyzed the QiBaishi and Picasso’s family background and living condition.After that, through the analysis of socialattitudes towards painting art at their time, the result can quickly become essential requirements for secondparts to compare Qi Baishi’s painting technique with the one of Picasso. In the third part, the researcherfocus on their painting expression form which has been influenced by their living condition.Meanwhile, therelation between their living condition and their painting form have been conducted by the research.Finally,the contribution made by Qi Baishi and Picasso are discussed in the last part.
