Doris Lessing has become a world-renowned representative writer in thecontemporary time. Her creations are diverse and her writing skills are superb. Criticsand readers at home and abroad pay more and more attention to her, especially aftershe won the Nobel Prize for Literature in2007. She is now honored as an evergreentree in literary world. The themes of her works are broad, which cover war, ethnicconflicts, environmental pollution, and the destiny of mankind. Lessing never sticks toone genre. She has been innovating tirelessly. She also explores many fields thatcontemporaneous writers rarely set foot on, which has made a huge contribution to thedevelopment of English literature. The Memoirs of a Survivor is an excellent one ofDoris Lessing’s fantasy fiction created in1970s. It won great praise of the critics afterpublication. Mara and Dann: An Adventure as a science fiction has attracted readers’attention. This novel reflects the author’s sense of worry from the beginning to theend.The thesis includes introduction, main body and conclusion. The introductionconcerns the background of Britain after World War II, which is the main factor thattriggers Lessing’s sense of worry. In addition, the chapter deals with the connotationof the sense of worry and its significance. The main body includes three chapters,which discuss the author’s sense of worry embodied in the novels on the basis ofecocriticism. Chapter1deals with the worry about natural environment whichincludes lack of natural resources, environmental pollution, mutation of species andclimatic anomaly. Chapter2analyzes the worry about war for power and for naturalresources. Chapter3shows the worry about moral decline: ferocity and apathy. Theconclusion points out that Lessing conveys a hope to us through the novels. Lessing’ssense of worry is thought-provoking.
