Triggered by entangled love of protagonist of Wuthering Heights which was written by Emily Bronte, and sentimental love of Balthus and Antoinette, this study analyzes La Toilette de Cathy, which is Balthus‘works, who is the master of representationalpainting in twentieth century. With the analysis mentioned above, this paper makes adeeper insight into the coexisting relationship between Balthus’ arts and emotion, understanding the style and the spirit of his art, offering a scientific methodology for the future of art practice.First of all, this study reviews the life story of Balthus to see how he wasnourished by art and literature, it detailed elaborates Balthus’s study and learning tomasters of painting in the early stages, and researches his awareness of painting spiritconnotation. Chapter2focuses on Balthus and Antoinette’s love, combining withstory of Heathcliff and Catherine, explores how Balthus was affected by WutheringHeights as an inspiration of modern representational painting. The third chaptermainly has a discussion on the meaning and the metaphor of La Toilette de Cathyfrom the sense of content and form, to reveal painting art from Balthus’s emotionalfeelings. Chapter4narrates the continuation of Casy’s image in Balthus’s painting,looking into the inner world and spirit of his works with analysis of his emotion.
