The Selection Of Person Deixis Pragmatic Stance And Identity Construction

Deixis is an important field of pragmatics research. Person deixis attracts many scholars attention as a kind of deixis. Linguists Levinson and Fillmore and other linguists study deixis are mostly collected on definition, classification, grammar levels, etc. There are fewer researches on person deixis pragmatic stance and identity construction. The study of identity is a significant field in sociology. In foreign countries, the researches on identity have achieved productive results. The studies of identity are mainly focuses on the literature review for foreign study results. Identity construction has been an important research issue in the field of systemic functional linguistic, critical discourse analysis and presents the trend of interdisciplinary. Different subjects study on identity from different view which provides broader vision and research resources. However, the study of identity lack of the adequate understanding of deixis. The researches on identity are rudiment in China. Therefore, this study researches the selection of person deixis pragmatic stance and identity construction.Communication Accommodation Theory and the Linguistic Adaptation Theory as theoretical framework, the study analyzes the relationship between the change of person deixis stance and identity construction in dynamic context. The speakers adapt or accommodate the relationship among the speaker, hearer, and the third person through the change of person deixis stance in conversation. People change person deixis stance to construct identity refers to different communicative needs or communicative context. That is the speaker make the accommodate speech act. This paper connect person deixis stance with identity construction, from adapt mental world, social world two aspects, based on Communication Accommodation Theory and the Linguistic Adaptation Theory to study how the speakers use person deixis change stance and why the speakers change person deixis pragmatic stance so as to construct identity. We can find that person deixis pragmatic stance and identity construction have close relationship. The speaker change person deixis pragmatic stance in order to adapt pragmatic empathy, pragmatic de-empathy, power relations and social distance. At the same time, the speaker successfully constructs identity and achieves harmonious communication.The thesis researches on person deixis pragmatic stance and identity construction which have theoretical and practical significance. In theoretical aspect, the study on person deixis interpersonal functions at the same time rich the relevant studies on identity construction. The research on identity have a directive function, help people construct self identity and the identity in the others expectations successfully. In practical application aspect, the study conducive the speaker to choose proper deixis pragmatic stance for the purpose of make a successful communication.
