Conversation is one of the most basic forms of utterance, and the utterance is abasic form in human communication. Therefore, some researchers make analysis ondaily conversations or institutional conversations in order to find out some rules andfeatures. Through the research of various conversations, researchers find out thatdifferent types of conversations have different features in various contexts.The theory of conversation analysis proposed by Sacks and his colleagues is theframe of the present paper, and the author makes a research on the linguistic structure injob interview on TV from the perspective of conversation analysis. In the past researchof conversation in job interview, most of the researchers make an analysis on the dress,behavior and the linguistic aspects between two participants; however, the study on theconversation structure is not so detail. The author in this thesis pays more attention onthe partial organization and overall organization of job interview on TV, especiallyfocuses on the important role of the third participant—the host in such a conversation.Meanwhile, the study on power is further explained in the paper. The job interview onTV is an original program form so that the effect of the host should not be neglectedduring the whole conversation. Therefore, the author collects the data through the job–hunting program Only You in Tianjin TV and summarizes the distinguished features inthe conversation in such a special context.In terms of the study of partial organization of job interview conversation on TV,the author mainly discusses it from the following aspects: turn-taking, adjacency pairs,conversation interruption, overlap and repair. The author makes a detail study on theturn-taking system among the participants in job interview conversation through thedata collected. Meanwhile, the author discusses the relationship between the power andtopic changing. The phenomenon of conversation repair, conversation interruption andconversation overlap exist with unequal percentage in the job interview conversation.Through the research, the author has some basic findings. First, the turn-takingsystem is appropriate for the type of job interview conversation on TV on the whole.However, in terms of the topic control and turn allocation, the host and the interviewers own more priority because of their special identities. The discussion on conversationinterruption in the present paper indicates that the behavior of interruption is carried outmostly by the host and the function exists in such behavior to some extent as well;however, the phenomenon of the interviewee to interrupt others does not occur in thedata collected. During the process on conversation repair, the participant is inclined tocarry out self-repair more than other-repair. Last but not least, the author also makes aresearch on the distribution and types of questions in job interview conversation andfinds out the rules of questions proposed by the interviewers or the host. At the sametime, the research provides some response strategies for the interviewees to make themhave a perfect performance.The purpose of the present study is: firstly, to find out the features of interviewconversation, especially the role of the host and the linguistic features used by the hostthrough a further analysis of partial organization and overall organization in the jobinterview conversation on TV; secondly, the study on response strategies to interviewquestions can help other job seekers improve conversation strategy in order to make agood performance in job interview, meanwhile, the interview training institutions canalso have viable training strategies to enhance the interviewing skills of the trainees;thirdly, through the study on the structural components and the distribution of questions,the TV organizer can make innovation in the process of designing program in order toimprove the program level and achieve higher audience rating. Last but not least, thepresent paper enriches various conversation researches and gives rise to the interest ofdiscussing the job interview conversation abroad.
