Research Of Ancient Chinese Taoism Science And Technology Literature

The glory of Chinese ancient science and technology is famous all over the world. The famous Dr. Joseph Needham had said that until the14th century AD our Chinese science skill was the level that westerners could not covet. In China, we have Agriculture, Medicine, Astronomy and Arithmetic four scientific system and the famous four-great-inventions of this magnificent ancient scientific achievements. At the same time, more than five thousand years cultural civilization of Chinese nation also contains abundant traditional scientific thought. And more fortunately, we have saved and expanded them. The Taoism science and technology is one of the special parts in our traditional science and technology treasure house. In the long-term process of Taoism development history, Taoism practitioner including Taoist kept and saved the original records of traditional science and methods when they ware doing some Taoism activity about science and technology, including the achievements of Taoist. These precious scientific and technical literatures involve many subjects, such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Agriculture and Medicine etc. Taoism alchemy made great contributions to the Chinese ancient chemistry and metallurgy, as well as internal alchemy’s impact and influence on Physiology, psychology and brain sciences. Taoism also made especial achievements on Sports science, nutrition and health. Taoist medicine also has its own place in traditional Chinese medical history. Taoism also have made outstanding contributions in many fields such as ecology, astronomy, geology, mineralogy and machine manufacturing. The scientific and technological achievements of Taoism have practical application value that were kept and spread in the form of documents. And that has a deep impact on China’s scientific progress and development.The aim of this thesis is trying to combine and find Taoism historical science and technology data systematically and comprehensively with logic analysis and literature analysis method. The paper focus on the basis research of Taoist science and technology literature in China ancient time including three main parts.The first part will analyze the reason for forming, keeping and spreading Taoist science and technology literature. The details are elaborated by Taoist religion itself needs to be developed, by ruling class and by the social environment and the social production and living needs.The second part will mainly describe the ancient Chinese Taoist science and technology literature content classification. Yin and Yang theory as the basic, some five elements theory science and technology documents, astronomy, geography, physics, chemistry, mathematics, medicine and industrial technical documents are the main categories. They are the important way to know ancient Taoist science and technology achievements. And listing some relevant scientific documents in these categories.The last part mainly discusses the formation, management and utilization of Chinese ancient Taoist documents of science and technology. With the characteristic of interaction and restriction among the science and technology documents’composition, circulation and collection as the background, this part will analyze the formation, collection agencies, utilization and the ways of spread of Taoist science and technology documents.
