A Dissertation On The Performance And Utilization Of Pipa’s Playing Technique"yaozhi"

Pipa’s playing techniques are varies and complicated, and every technique has its own timbre and expressiveness which plays an irreplaceable role in Pipa’s performance. Yaozhi is a common right-handed playing technique in Pipa’s performance. Varies of performances of it could present varies sound effects which play an important role in both "wen qu"(civil style) and "wu qu"(martial style).The article firstly states the timbre characteristic and basic approaches of Yaozhi as well as several playing techniques which derive from it. Then the utilization of several common Yaozhi in different music works will be discussed. The author aims to summarize the basic playing methods of Yaozhi through her own practice experiences, presenting the diversified timbre beauties of it in different tones and discussing common problems and related solutions of Yaozhi combined with her practice experiences.
