Study For The General Using Rules Of Chinese Characters Reflected On The Evolution Of "Shi"

As a miracle of human civilization, Chinese characters have been making some changes in amount, structure, pronunciation and literal meaning. These changes reflect the general rules in the process of using Chinese characters. Reforming Chinese characters with various using requirements and habits in exercise, which is the root cause of the evolution of Chinese characters. Taking Chinese character "shi" as research object, this paper sorted out the diachronic development procedure of "shi" by using some knowledge about Chinese paleography, Chinese phonology and Chinese traditional semantics, and tried to find out general rules in the process of using Chinese characters, by comparing the features of the evolution of "shi" in different periods.There are four parts in this paper. Chapter one, preface, briefly introduces the researches on general rules about using Chinese characters. Chapter two, the image and function of "shi", mainly clarifies the origin and basic function of "shi". Chapter three, the evolution process of Chinese characters, clarifies the evoluting process of "shi", and analyses the features of different evolution periods. Chapter four, the general rules in process of using Chinese characters reflected by the evolution of "shi", chiefly summaries the general using rules of Chinese characters in amount, pronunciation, structure and literal meaning.
