| In terms of the style of composition, the late piano sonatas of Beethoven virtually stay away from classicism. Due to changes in Beethoven’s philosophy of life, the style and connotation of his late sonatas subsequently transform, resulting in the sublimation of thoughts. Being a lyrical fantasy sonata, Sonata Op.109is a paragon of romanticism among Beethoven’s late piano sonatas. Its movement structure of "Adagio—Prestissimo—Andante" breaks the classical fast-slow-fast order. For its original composing style, this sonata has a compact structure with an overarching theme. As a whole, Beethoven’s late piano works are symbolized by varied tempos and frequent recurrences of the fugue style. From the perspective of performance, the author of this thesis has given a penetrating analysis of Sonata Op.109, especially the musical individualities of its three movements. |
