A Preliminary Study On Weibu Words’ Initiation And Evolution

The key point of this paper is to study Weibu words of ancientChinese. From the diachronic perspective, we have explored evolutionpath of Weibu words and have also concluded some certain major factorsbased on enormous linguistic facts during its evolution. To sum up thetraits of evolution in Weibu words, the paper has been divided into fourparts which can be seen as follow:The Weibu words classification (the first chapter), which can beseparated into seven parts based on semantic source, as the endingmeaning、directional meaning、acquirement meaning、taking meaning、attachment meaning、accomplishing meaning as well as visual meaning.So we’ll demonstrate the representative Weibu words for each type.The discussion of evolution in Weibu words(the second chapter).Webegin from the previous seven parts to analyze the specific procedure ofWeibu words’ emerging by the example of typical one. The appearancesof Weibu words are mainly subject to its’ complicated structure andsymmetry construction. Verb and noun’ sub-categorization transforming as well as appearing of pro-adverbial or complements are considered tobe the main part in complex structure, which also contains some newborn Weibu words through simplified structure. So different Weibu wordshave quite different factors.Grammaticalization of Weibu words(the third part), we will showthree directions of Weibu words’ grammaticalization: auxiliary words、affix、prep. The phase of Weibu is not the ending and grammaticalizationis a continuum, so which means Weibu words are just transition period.The source of Weibu words and structure changing in its evolution(the fourth chapter), as for this part, according to previous analysis, wecould divide the source of Weibu words into two types called verb andprep. Due to different words have different structure changing in theWeibu words’ evolution, the Weibu words deriving from verbs mainlyexperience:first," subject-predicate structure to predicate-object structure";second," coordinate structures or serial verb construction topredicate-complement structure ";the third," predicate-object structure-predicate-object structure ". Weibu words deriving from prep mainlyexperience:" predicate-complement structure-predicate-object structure" changing.The paper has stated the Weibu words comprehensively, but stillfailed to contain all of the Weibu words which is also the great pity forthis research. However, what we can confirm is that we have succeed in adding Weibu words content which owns the tremendous significance forthe integrity of grammar system and provides some reference meaning forthe Weibu words’ study.
