The Research On The "Nature Evil" From The Perspective Of "Shun-shi" Of Xunzi

“Shun” means indulgence and “Shi” refers to the natural lust of human being.“Shun-Shi” means that human heart, dominating the five organs, allows theindulgence of human being’s natural lust. This thesis deals with the viewpoint of “evilnature” represented by Xunzi from “Shun-Shi” and aims to discover the hypotheses of“dark consciousness” and “worst condition” in human’s politics design of Xunzi.Further, the approaches to transforming human beings and design of politics based onpolitical dynamics of Xunzi are also discussed. This thesis consists of three parts:The first part is mainly about “the division of Universe and Mankind” which isbased on the critical review of the other masters at the time. This view criticizes thetraditional political thinking pattern of “connection of Universe and Mankind” andbrings the mode of thinking back to reality.The second part points out that “Nature” proposed by Xunzi and Mencius is ofdifferent reality with the same concept. This part also eradicates the incorrectunderstanding existing in academic circles. Based on that, the understanding ofhuman nature held by Xunzi is analyzed in detail. The dual meaning of “Nature” isrevealed, that is, the opposition of heart and lust.The third part is mainly the refining of “Shun-Shi” which includes twoconditions. A kind heart can reach the condition of “action without transgression”with “Shun-Shi” whereas an evil heart will go towards a dangerous situation definedby Xunzi as “Evil”. Therefore, based on dark consciousness, Xunzi starts his politicalpresumption of worst condition and illustrates the design of political dynamics andapproaches to transforming human beings.In the conclusive part, the advantages of “evil nature” represented by Xunzi isonce again discussed under the perspective of “Shun-Shi”, thus the concept of“Nature” is understood and mastered comprehensively. At last the theoretical value ofpolitics reflected from the viewpoint of Xunzi is evaluated.
