Research On The Relationship Between The Name And The Character About The Female Names Of "A Dream Of Red Mansions"

This paper is mainly from the perspectiveof semiotics, and Peirce’s ternary theory as the theoretical basis,analyze the names of the "Dream of Red Mansions" dynamically,and stressthe human motivation in the naming process, and stress the relationshipbetween the symbols and the objects, and emphasize the motivatedrelationship between signifier and signified. That is, the symbol of names.The relationship between the names and characters which is discussed inthis topic, is word Signification’s important manifestation."A Dream of Red Mansions" as a big “symbol field”， And it is dividedinto three texts,including the story and fate of the characters, thecharacters’ judgments and Overtures, and character names. Throughanalysis, we found that there is intertextuality between symbols and thecomponents inside the symbol, thus we reveal the special relationshipbetween the names and characters, mainly as the names of fables and myths.And this relationship lay the foundation for the name’s status in theentire “symbol field”.
