The diversity of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature have brought ahuge number of perspectives for literature study on our Chinese Literature.Thedevelopment of our Chinese literature has also introduced a better platform thanbefore for us to re-interpret the classic works on literature in a new context. In thehistory of Chinese Literature, adequate kinds of resources have been given to us bygreat pieces of literature. We did not do much better than we have ever thought wecould. As is known to us all, what we can do to the masterpieces is only the tip of theiceberg. So we still have a long way to go.As everyone has his own thought,we mayhave different understandings of the same contents. Therefore,it can be extracteddifferent understandings from the contents, taking different views as entry points, inorder to form various works on literature.Perspective is a concept of Hermeneutic andReception Aesthetics. It means the angle of observing literature. It decides theemphasis of our observation. It is a bridge between our understandings and currentliterature. And it is necessary to our understanding. There are many entry points tointerpret and study the current literature, such as social aspect, political aspect, historical aspect, class aspect and cultural aspect and so on.Those perspectives ofunderstanding the content are independent of each other.None of them can bereplaced by one another when we interpret as they are parallel concepts. In the historyof our Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, gender,as an entry point ofunderstanding of our literature, has been neglected for quite a long time due to theinfluences of conventional thoughts. Many specialists and scholars have drawn toomuch attention on conventional perspectives which we cannot have any newunderstandings through these conventional perspectives.Since1980s,feminism hasbeen introduced to China from the western world, which opens up a brand-new way for Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature scholars to carry out their study andupdate their thoughts. From current literature study points of view, gender study is a specific angle tocomprehend Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature as well as an entry pointto analyze Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature study.Factors, such associal, culturalclass and ethnical and so on,can be included in content analysis usinggender study. This study is a comprehensive approach, and instead of the view ofmasculinity and feminity, gender study can easily break limitation of it.This paperattempts to adopt the methodology of gender study to analyze the female charactersfrom four full-length novels (Qing Chun Wan Sui,Huo Dong Bian Ren Xing,LianAi De Ji Jie,Qing Hu) written by Wang Meng in different period of Wang Meng’slife. Moreover, based on the analysis of these full-length novels, the paper will discussthe reflection of the sexual relations on Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literaturefrom the conventional sense. The paper will be divided into five sections. It will start off by introducing theorigin of the topic, the current situation of Modern and Contemporary ChineseLiterature study, the purpose and the significance of the topic. The core content of thispaper will be based on the comprehensive summary of domestic literature. There will be two parts in Section Two.Gender and its difficulties will beanalyzed in the content.Gender and gender perspective will be interpreted in the firstpart and it will point out that Wang Meng is an author with feminity. The second partwill mainly discuss the survival predicament of female in Modern and ContemporaryChinese Literature and current society.Section Three consists of four parts. From gender and feminism points of view, sexual relations will be discussed by studying four different female characters.Thefirst kind of female is the one who are revolutionary female. The second kind offemale is the one who is living in widowhood, and she does not realize the severesituation of herself. The third kind of female is the one who is mother. This mothercan be one who is dead but still alive in her child’s mind. She can also be the one who is the authority of the whole family. The forth kind of female is the kind of femalewho is relatively independent female. These elatively independent females can beindependent because of love or power, not because of themselves.Furthermore, thepaper will point out how female character expresses their voices in historicalcompromises.Different female have different voices.Through my analysis,we cansee that Wang Meng have provided us a variety of female characters, which areprecious deposits of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature. In Section Four, the paper will mainly discuss the complicacy of the femalecharacter Wang Meng created, which has relation with the sense of sur-feminity thatWang Meng adopted while writing. The first part is double perspectives of hiswriting. The second part is the rebellion of females to the power the males. The thirdpart is the suppression of male power consciousness to females.Besides,adoptingsur-feminity approach as a male author indicates significance and limitation onimprovement of writing.Wang Meng has put these feminine figurers into the conflictbetween Chinese and Occidental Cultures.Through the description of their malepower consciousness, it reveals the strong root of feudalism culture and thedifficulties of transforming our backward feudal culture. And it also reveals despair, agony and distortions of non-revolutionary intellectuals and bankrupt landlordswhich is thought-provoking.As for the conclusion,it will assist us to better understand the connotation of thecontents from gender perspective.Wang Meng aims to break the ties for female inmasculine culture so that he can attempt to build the independent character and valuesfor female.Great changes on the fate of female characters can be seen form WangMeng’s works. Women are not just escaping from one another in masculinegroups. His unique thoughts and wisdom expand the contents from spiritual level andindicate his sagacity....
