Discussion Of Two Words Sharing The Same Pronunciation Of Ming In A Happy Excursion

This paper is based on the classic book of Chuang-tzu’s A Happy Excursion, thereference on the dictionary and the notes of explanation and annotation of this book.On the purpose of grasping the original meaning of this book the dissertation willcomb the text entirely.In this book the two words sharing the same pronunciation of Ming appearedalternately. Some scholars point out that the two words in fact means the samemeaning of sea. And one is just the other’s replacement. But the old dictionary doesnot agree this view, it says that one word is related the situation of far, dark, andmystery while the other one related to water referring to the scene of raining lightly.Then what is the truth? This is the question the author tries to solute. The authorpoints out that the two words in fact have different meaning and they stand fordifferent states, and one is another’s foundation. On this basis, the author analysis thequestion from four aspects including the different two states of two words stand for,the specific description of one Ming in which some existence staying, the method ofarriving the higher state of Ming, and the influence of each other.Above all, the purpose of this paper is to state the two different realms of Ming andgive a brief discussion of their relationship and mutual influence.
