By interpreting my personal experience and the love story which is told in thenovel Love in the time of Cholera, this essay acquired a kind of new understanding oflove (between man and woman). This understanding points out that, as an era’s fate, love is utterly related to time. When it’s time for love, a kind of meaning activitybegins to operate. This kind of meaning activity creates a changed view of our world, which is different from our normal experience. Therefore, a fissure between these twoviewpoints is formed. This fissure can lead to failures of love. In order to harvest apure love relationship, it’s necessary for lovers to learn the art of love. According tothis understanding of love, a criticism is made against traditional love theories inwestern world. These theories are accused for being tied up to individualism andunfairly put under the pressure of tradition and morality requirement. Then, the essayput forward a new comprehension of human being, which is based on phenomenologyand hermeneutics. From this point of view, human being is comprehended as ahorizon, or a plaza, and this means that human being is no longer treated as an atomor split to two entirely different parts which are called body and soul.
