With China’s deepening of international communication, more business Englishtalents are needed. Business English major has been one of the most popular majors inHigher Vocational Colleges. However, the students’ Business Speaking Englishproficiency is not optimistic enough. Exploring a more effective teaching model and applyit into BOE teaching in HVC so to improve BOE teaching quality is the research hotspotof BE teachers at present. This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of applying Goal-orientedTask-based Approach into the teaching of BOE in HVC. The new teachingmodel-“Goal-oriented Task-based Approach”, which is primarily based on Task-basedTeaching Approach, borrows some idea of “Goal Tree Method”. Its basic teachingprinciple is “To perform goals-oriented tasks in learning”. The goals-setting help studentsto improve instrumental learning motivation; while through performing typicalgoal-oriented tasks in workplace, some integrative learning motivation springs up and bepromoted. The author assumed the application of GOTBA could help students to improvethe BOE proficiency through their promotion of learning motivation.A comparative study of Experimental Group and Control Group was adopted in thisresearch. The subjects are72BE majors of2012in Hebei Vocational College of ForeignLanguages. They are divided into one control class given the traditional3P teaching modeland one experimental class given the GOTBA teaching model. Experimental instrumentsinclude Oral English pre-test, BOE mid-test and post-test, four motivation questionnairesand a post-experiment interview. Statistical outcomes in the study shows that GOTBAhelps to improve students’ BOE learning motivation significantly including instrumentalmotivation, integrative motivation and motivation intensity. Among them, integrativemotivation grows the fastest. The promotion of both integrative and instrumental learningmotivation can effectively help to improve the student’s BOE proficiency, whileintegrative motivation contributes more for this improvement. The three test results showthat GOTBA is more effective to increase the learners’ Business Oral English Levelcompared with traditional PPP Approach.
