Research On Local Storytelling Art In Chinese Local Films Of New Period

Chinese local storytelling in films of new period not only shows rural nature,changes of people’s relationship and psychology in the transitional stage of the wholesociety, but also is responsible for spreading national culture and shaping China’s imageto the world. The reasons for the boost of local storytelling in Chinese films can betraced to traditional culture, social change and the media of films, which is furtherexplained as: firstly, China has long been an agricultural country and agriculture’ impactis still strong to today’s society; secondly, the Open-up Policy has brought new changesand development to China; Thirdly, film is a kind of public culture and audience’response and discussing point are usually reflected in the creation and development oflocal storytelling in movies.Accordingly, this paper is aimed at finding the features and laws of Chinese localstorytelling in films of new period through analyzing its storytelling structure, charactertypes of storytelling and storytelling language. The paper will adopt the followingmethods to research: literature searching, comparative analyze and analyzing of textsand pictures.On the basis of the above research, this paper holds the perspectives as following.First, storytelling structure of local storytelling can be seen in the relationship betweenplot and time as well as space. Second, local storytelling usually shapes characters intoflat characters—characters with one single personality, personality—developingcharacters and round characters by adopting two approaches which are positive foil andnegative contrast. Third, local storytelling language is divided into character languageand picture language. Character language can be further divided into social language, personalized living language and dialect, and picture language consists of threecomponents including picture constructing, light and color, shadow and hue. Finally,this paper points out the bottlenecks of the creation of Chinese local storytelling in filmsof new period, and then looks into the future of it.
