The accelerated intercultural legal communication and exchanges between Chinaand other countries call for more in-depth research into the legal translation. TheCriminal Judgment plays an important role in the legal translation and the accuracy ofthe translation reflects judicial fairness and legal norms. As a special style of writing,Criminal Judgment is structured and progressive. As the discourse linguistics isbecoming more and more popular, the Thematic Progression features with discoursestructured also have been widely applied to the study of translation.According to the current situation, the writer takes numerous articles of thecriminal judgments in both Chinese and English offered by the PanYu prison as thecorpora and discusses the discourse structure of the Chinese criminal judgment. Thenthe writer compares C-E textual translation from the perspective of ThematicProgression with the qualitative analysis and the description method. And it holds thatpatterns of TP is crucial for the interpreter to convey the criminal judgments’discourse structure as well as the information. At the same time, due to the two different language structures, the Theme-Rhemestructure in the source language sometimes isn’t in coincidence with that in the targetlanguage. The writer compares and analyses the differences and similarities of theThematic Progression in the C-E criminal judgment. And according to the final result, the writer further explores how to adjust the translation strategy to reproduce theinformation and discourse structure by giving the consideration of the originaldiscourse coherence and English language structure in order to make a littlecontribution to Judicial Documents in the research of discourse analysis.
