In order to make the painting simpler, rougher with more deep feeling of land, the present author uses a large pen (fan pen) to perform with rhythmic strokes, toseek changes in the uniform color, to show rural scenes and unique cave which arequite common in North Shan’xi and Xinjiang’s high-profile residential Tuyugouhouses, to express understanding of the local flavor. In the use of painting color, thepresent author prefers to use warm and gray colors, which may be closer to theoriginal land color. In the painting, the present author tries to look for subtle changesin gray, especially when drawing folk scene in the sun, looking for differences inunity on the basis of warm gray, which makes the color more delicate and the changemore abundant. The present author’s drawing is bolder, forming sharp touch in closelooking; the strokes of color and natural scene are more integrated visually in thedistance. In the choice of a pen, the present author prefers to use brush pens andsectors, because they carry more colors in the process of painting, and can formstrong brush strokes. The aesthetic value of a good painting depends on the painter’s furtherimprovement in skills, but the basic premise is to have the connotation of perfectbasic elements. For example, coordinating role composition, color, pen touch and thecooperation formed by these factors in the picture, these factors are the nature of anobject that becomes perfect in the language of painting. In a painting, the paintedobject is not important, what counts is the motivation the painter chooses. These areinnermost feelings an artist hides in his heart while seeking the beauty of an image atthe same time. The special aesthetic feeling is also the expression of the artist’s ownpersonal qualities and temperament. As the saying goes:The unique features of alocal environment always give special characteristics to its inhabitants. Similarly itsinhabitants can also create a unique culture of a local environment. The paintingitself is a kind of culture, which is directly influenced by the specific environmentand landscape, it is the same to an artist.A painting can represent its painter,it is an artist’s external expression on thesociety, life and his natural personal experience. As I am native in Northwest China, the vast northwest has nurtured my spiritual world with its great capacity. This pieceof land is like a kind mother, who has nurtured my flesh and blood with her warmembrace and sweet milk. More importantly, I have more profound feelings for thisland.I don’t know why,but every time I see this kind of scenery, and the housesconstructed with loess,my heart will always be filled with a kind of unspeakable surging that I am pushed to record with my pen,to express my emotions, often at thistime the desire and inspiration of creation would gush like dark springs, which cannot be suppressed. This land has always got me so hypnotized that I can not controlmy excitement to express ‘she’ by using color. The landscape paintings of theresidential theme by me are the sincere feelings when I face them. If good paintingsare the perfect coordination by point, line and surface, then the northwest in my mindshould be seen as an inexhaustible source of this coordination.
