From the beginning of the twentieth century, foreign language researchers have come torealize the importance of the listening in foreign language learning and established a series oflistening comprehension mode.In recent years,many researchers have shown their great interests in the studying ofmetacognitive strategy. On theoretical level, they have proved that metacognitive strategy trainingcan improve the learners’ listening ability. Now, metacognitive strategy training is increasinglyused in the practice of teaching.The recent relevant studies are usually taking undergraduate students as objects, few studiesinvolving students of higher vocational colleges in the field of metacognitive strategy training.This study wants to improve that metacognitive strategy training can improve students’listening ability in higher vocational college.The sample came from four intact classes majoring practical English in Ningbo X HigherVocational College. Experiments involve a total of120students. There are60students in twoexperimental classes, and another60students are in two control classes. In English listeningcourses, experimental classed received metacognitive strategy training for sixteen weeks, while thecontrol classes received the original method.After sixteen weeks, we have compared the results of listening learning both of experimentalclasses and control classes. And we find out that students’ listening comprehension would begreatly improved through metacognitive training in experimental classes. So we may conclude thatmetacognitive strategy training have positive effects on students in English listening of highervocational college.
