On Tony Bennett’s Theory Of Culture

In the trend of cultural studies，Tony Bennett’s theory of cultural studies is an ideologicalresources appreciable. Bennett’s cultural studies involving the two aspects of theory andpractice， mainly focus on the direction of cultural mechanism research. He raised“Governmentality Culture”， his theory of orientation presents a new trend of culturalstudies. Bennett reinterprets the connotation of the culture，and analyses the characteristics ofculture，it discusses from three aspects：as an art culture and art activities，political culturewhich has political，the culture as a social mechanism. On the basis of this，analyses thepolitical cultural in Bennett’s point，he applied his theory of culture in the specific culturalpractice，and he grasped the problems of cultural policy，cultural institutions and intellectualsin practice. He discusses responsibilities of the culture from three aspects：educate the public，culture and governmentality，cultural studies and intellectuals. The research on cultural policyand cultural institutions build the new mode of cultural studies，open a new space of culturalstudies，it is of great significance for the development of theory and practice of culturalstudies.
