Discourse marker is a common language phenomenon in daily communication. In view of the present research status, the paper explains the pragmatic function and development history of the discourse marker "yao bu shuo" on the basis of discourse markers research situation at home and abroad, combining with domestic "yao" and "yao bu". The full-text is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is introduction. This part mainly introduces the research situation at home and abroad of the discourse marker "yao bu shuo", meanwhile, including the main content, research methods and corpus etc.The second chapter mainly analyses that "yao bu shuo" conforms to the basic feature of discourse markers through instance analysis. Besides, the part explains the sentence structure of the discourse marker "yao bu shuo" from clause types, sentence patterns and the syntactic position of it.The third chapter talks about pragmatic functions of the discourse marker "yao bu shuo" from three aspects. Firstly, discussing the assertions of the discourse marker "yao bu shuo"; Secondly, explaining the function of textual connection of the discourse marker; Thirdly, interpreting the function of session of the discourse marker.The fourth chapter talks about the forming process of discourse marker"yao bu shuo". First of all, reviewing the forming process of discourse marker"yao bu shuo", through gestation period, starting period and the formative period; Then analysing the motivation and mechanism of grammaticalization of the discourse marker "yao bu shuo".The fifth chapter is conclusion, which is the essence of this paper. The part summarizes the main content systematically and explains its research value.
