Since the1980s, Chinese literary theory researchers have begun to make use of this extra-territorial term and related theory to study the identity crisis in Chinese context. It has important meaning for understanding the literary theory and criticism nowadays by studying the basic connotation of "identity" and the criticism practice of theory related to "identity" in Chinese and western literary theory, and comparing its different criticism practice in Chinese and western literary theory helps us to see the development trajectory of contemporary Chinese literary theory. This paper uses the keywords criticism method to expand research. Firstly, it clarifies that the double connotation of "identity" is "sameness" and "difference", pointing out that the "identity", as a subject, is always related to the"Other". Secondly, it comments the criticism practice of "identity" in Chinese and western literary theory. Finally, by comparing the difference of applications of related theories of "identity" in Chinese and western literary theory practice, it analyses the problem of translation of extraterritorial terms which spread to China and the meaning of importing extraterritorial theory to the development of Chinese literary theory.
