Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a world-renowned Latin American writer in the20th century, a remarkable representative of Latin American magic realism novels. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in1982for One Hundred Years of Solitude.To make a general survey of his novel creation history, the theme of love is gradually promoted from the edge to one of the most important topics. This paper starts from the works, such as One Hundred Years of Solitude, Love in the Time of Cholera and Melancholy Whores, etc. to discuss the rich connotation of his love theme, analyze its relationship with other themes, like solitude, disease and death, marriage and sex, incest and social traditions, to reveal that the surreal love that he pursues must overcome many difficulties before finally realized. Through a study into the love theme, it reflects a vast painting of the history and reality of Latin American society and expresses the author’s will to keep a foothold in Latin American world and explore the future development direction of Latin America and the world. Meanwhile, Gabriel also portrays various female images with different characters. The author gives high evaluation and praises for the freedom, resolution, wisdom and courage that they manifest in the pursuit of love, which reflects his feminism (especially ecofeminism) position and perspective.
