"One hundred years of solitude" is the masterpiece of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and won him the world reputation. As yet the females’existence and destiny in the novel fail to receive enough attention. In light of this, the paper tries to interpret Marquez’s work from a new perspective of feminism through the close reading of the text, gives an interpretation of the three representative female characters with decisive influence on the destiny of their family:Ursula in the start-up period of the family, Fernanda in the transition period, and Amaranta Ursula in the period of destruction. The thesis falls into five parts. The introduction part is a description of the purpose and significance of the paper. By employing the theory of Androgyny by Jung, Woolf, Helene Cixous, Caroline G. Hellbrun, the first part expounds how females eliminate gender binary opposition and realize the harmony within when they live ideally out of a patriarchic society. The second part analyzes the development of social gender identity, different speech rights of males and females, and then concludes that females have no say in a patriarchic society. The third part depicts the awakening of self-awareness and fights against patriarchy of women who grow in the western civilization which is far away from their motherland. The last part concludes that only based on gender equality and harmony can women establish their feminine subjectivity status, fulfill their self-determination and self-realization; only when more and more women rise as one to fight to free themselves from patriarchic oppression, and only when the concept of gender equality is accepted by the whole society and joint efforts are made to improve women’s living environment, can the feminine subjectivity status be truly established.
