The sixth generation film directors first appear in the1990s,apart from Chinesefifth generation directors who examine national history and cultural tradition,they turn a spotlight on the underlying figures and marginal groups who live in the period of social transformation with original recording technique,which also including the female groups who live under the background of social culture and ethics changes.The sixth generation film directors use cameras to record real and cruel society withcalm head, objective perspective,and documentary style.They show the survival and ethical dilemma of Chinese modern women to the audiences under the background of economic globalization and marketization.As a result,comprehensively and systematically observe the femal images in the films of the sixth generation directors hasimportant studying values for our understanding of women’ living circumstancesduring the period of social transformation.Although there is a controversy about concluding the formulation and members ofthe sixth generation film directors of China in domestic academia, based on existing researches and personal understanding,the writer determines the definition of the sixthgeneration film directors of China from three aspects of time, the aesthetic ideas, creative environments, and analyzes their creation background, artistic features.The female images in the films of the sixth generation directors are full of uniquecharacteristics,the writer finds that women become alienation object in the consumption of vision and desire,they are frustrated in expecting urban fairy tales love and family,they are also deviated from the social mainstream life and values.These female images are depicted as stereotyped “angel” and “devil”and neutral individuals of fuzzycharacteristics,or dangerous women in the expression of traditional male discourse.They are self-consciousness awakening women,brave person in the face of difficulties and lonely and anxious individuals under the influence of modern feminine values.Inorder to shape these female images,on the lens language,the sixth generation directors use lots of full-length shots and close-up, by leaps and bounds of clips,grey and dark pictures with comperative light and shade.On the structure layout strategy of theplot,the film dirctors avoid conflict and suspense drama,combining multiple parallel orinterwoven stories and use open end which full of enlightenment meaning.On the storystrategy,they use “hidden self”of person narrative and various narrative perspective.There are three factors that influence the formulation of female images in the six th generation directors’ films.Firstly,women’s social status and social identities are bound,such as the identities of the low occupation, women’ unconsciousness of traditional patriarchal norms of the collective;Secondly,the creation standpoints and attitudes of the sixth generation directors also important factors that affect the female images, including they try to find creative and new themes, their humanitarian care for the disadvantaged groups; Finally,social values and ethics also determine the performance ofthese female images,such as the change of gender ethics, reconstruction of the marriage ethics and disorders of society ethics.The female images in the films of the sixth generation directors have impartant study values.These female images can enrich and supplement female images type of theChinese movie and form inspiration for Chinese future film pratice.Meanwhile,these female images create new aesthetic experiences to the audiences and have importantinspirations for current social women in thinking about their behavior way.Inaddition,they reflect paradoxical situations of female status,and have an ethical revelation about the value of “person”and the value of women.
