In recent years, the English teaching reform in vocational schools has become an importantpart in the reform of higher institutions. However, the vocational college students fail to possesssolid English foundation and high English ability. At the same time, the traditional teachingmodel fails to motivate the students to learn English actively. In order to improve the effects ofthe English teaching, it is essential to make the transformation from the traditional teachingmodel of “teacher-centered” to a new teaching model of “students-centered” in theory andpractice. As a new important teaching model, the multimedia network teaching emphasizes the“students-centered” and autonomous learning. Based on the application of the multimedianetwork teaching model, Shandong Yingcai College has introduced the Stanford EnglishMultimedia Courseware and applied it to the practice to improve the effects of the Englishteaching and the students’ English performance. In order to study the effects of Stanford English Multimedia Courseware in multimedianetwork teaching model, the author adopted the way of the empirical experiment, which wasconducted in Shandong Yingcai College for a semester.92non-English-major freshmen of twoclasses in the School of Pre-school Education were chosen as the subjects. Class one was theExperimental Class. The teacher adopted the Stanford English Multimedia Courseware in themultimedia network teaching model. The students were encouraged to learn Englishautonomously and collaboratively. Class two was selected as the Control Class. The studentswere taught in one-multimedia PC teaching model with the PPT of21st Century PracticalCollege English. In the Control Class, the teacher played the dominant role and students justfollowed the teacher’s classroom instruction. In order to carry out the experiment, the authordesigned the questionnaire of autonomous learning, tests and interview for the students. Thethesis was intended to explore two questions:1. Whether the Stanford English MultimediaCourseware in multimedia network teaching model can improve the students’ autonomouslearning ability.2. Whether the Stanford English Multimedia Courseware in multimedia networkteaching model can improve the students’ comprehensive English ability. The experimentinstruments include questionnaires, tests, PETS oral tests, interviews and SPSS17.0.The results showed that compared with the21st Century Practical College English inone-multimedia PC teaching model, the application of Stanford English Multimedia Coursewarein multimedia network teaching model can improve the students’ autonomous learning abilityand the comprehensive English ability dramatically. But in a way, the limitations exist. The Stanford English Multimedia Courseware is not the best way for students with poor self-control to learn English. Therefore, the author puts forwardsome suggestions, hoping to offer references for the vocational English teaching and helpEnglish teachers to carry on their teaching activities better.
