Though translation iscrucial in human history, the translator as an executor of the translation has been ignorant for along time, however, translation study usually pay more attention on source author, source textand target text and target reader. Not until1980s witnessed a big change in translation studywhich transformed to the cultural view, the translator attracted more attention, and translator’ssubjectivity is becoming a hot subject in the circles of translation.Toury’s descriptive translation study also attaches importance to the translator’s subjectivechoice and put the translation into the target cultural and literary system which finallydetermine the translator’s choice of translation strategy. Therefore, in this paper, the writerdepends on Toury’s translation norms to analysis the translator’s subjectivity in Englishnewspaper translation.Nowadays, the world is in the age of information explosion, newspaper as a media and carrierdelivers the abundant information and become a more swift way to acknowledge the worldsituation and big events among countries. English newspaper has its own characteristics whichdistinct its translation from others. The translation of English newspaper needs correctness,objectivity, readable, attractiveness and speedy as well for timeliness is an essential feature ofnewspaper, if news delay will lose news value.This paper hold the point that translator’s subjectivity give a full play to the process of newspaper translation, such as translator adopt the way of compiling to combine a few passagesinto one, add or cut all depend on the translator’s judgment. Of course, to some degree theaction of the translator is not arbitrary, he should follow to some constraints and limitation.These factors mainly include the source text writer, target language reader, translator and thesponsor so on and so forth. Therefore, in the translation the translator’s acknowledgement andchoice is important and determine the translator weather did the appropriate option, though thetranslation is a subjective activity based on the objective material, it inevitably mixes thetranslators’partial opinions, their own purpose or even prejudice.In conclusion, no one can overlook the fact that the translator makes his choices and decisionsplay an important role in the process of translation. Furthermore, translator’s opinion decidesthe translation’s standard and quality, so it need more on the translator, and the study oftranslator’s subjectivity needs to be developed to a broader scope and a deeper degree.
