Conceptual integration theory (CIT) as the important component of cognitive linguistics has built a unified theoretical framework for the research on linguistic cognitive activities. EST translation is one of the most popular subjects in present society. With the development of science and technology, English for Science and Technology (EST) has got unprecedented achievements. Translation is seeking the relationship between two languages. Language communicative activities cannot be separated from people’s cognition. The thesis makes analysis on how to perform EST translation better and how to make the translation more accurate and clear with CIT. The four spaces and models in the CIT by Fauconnier have been widely applied in various fields. Not only CIT provides psychological cognition process of a new way of thinking for translation study, but can embody the translation strategy selection process through this idea, this thesis makes analysis on how to perform EST translation better and how to make the translation more accurate and clear with CIT.The author matched the counterparts between source language and target language to improve the translation of EST through the four spaces (generic space, two mental spaces and blended space). The author also optimizes the accuracy of EST translation by virtue of the combination of EST translation and each the model (i.e. frame network, single-scope network, and double-scope network). Finally, a more accurate EST translation procedure in detail was concluded which mainly includes three steps: understanding professional terms with EST background knowledge, reducing difficulty of EST translation with relevant elements and improving EST translation with CIT.To sum up, the thesis devotes to the deduction from difficulty, the avoidance of ambiguity, and the improvement of accuracy in EST translation wih CIT direction.
