It is well known to us that vocabulary is building materials of language. Everylanguage express things related to the objective world through words. Therefore,vocabulary plays an important role in language.Vocabulary teaching has a great influence on overseas students inChinese-teaching. For now, most vocabulary annotations of domestic foreignChinese course are written in English, while the acceptability of English translationis neglected in many parts of speech. Especially after practical investigation, theauthor found that there were a number of problems in the English translation ofannotations of verb-noun conversion word in foreign Chinese courses. In thisthesis, the author takes verb-noun conversion word in the series of courses of ACourse In Chinese Language and Boya Chinese as an example, making a detailedanalysis about English translation of annotations of verb-noun conversion word inforeign Chinese courses with textbooks and other corpus combined, and discussingthe study on acceptability of English translation of annotations of verb-nounconversion word in foreign Chinese courses.This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one, the introduction, containsresearch background, purpose, meaning and the summary of current situation, aswell as research scope, methods and theoretical basis.Chapter two mainlyintroduces the current situation of English translation of annotations of verb-noun conversion word in the courses of A Course In Chinese Language and BoyaChinese. The author has made statistics of the number of verb-noun words andanalysed the methods of making annotations of these words.Chapter three is thesurvey result of annotations of verb-noun conversion word in courses. The authorfinds out the problems exist in the notes and classifies them. These problems ofannotations includes inaccuracy of verb morpheme; semantic item which is out ofcontext; incomformity between notes and characteristics of the marked words; notcompletely accaracy or differences between English translation notes and theoriginal words’ meaning; lack of characteristics and meaning of words’ notes andwithout cultural connotations of words in the annotations.Chapter four mainlycovers the analysis and strategies of the problems that mentioned in Chapter threefrom several aspects.
