Since1970s, translation studies in the West have shifted to "the cultural turn" And the vision of studies has been expanded. The issue of the translator’s subjectivity is becoming an important research topic in translation. In recent years. it’s also becoming more and more widely appreciated in China.Along with the advancement of translation studies from the perspective of aesthetics, the research at the translator’s aesthetic subjectivity is gradually becoming more detailed and comprehensive. In recent years. the studies of the aesthetic subjectivity have gradually become a new focus in the research fields of poetry translation. Chinese poetry is of high value for research purposes because of its beautiful language and rich images. Classical Chinese poetry possesses itself own features. and English and Chinese languages and cultures have differences of their own. These factors have determined the important role of the translator’s subjectivity in the translation of classical Chinese poetry.This thesis takes the theory of the translator’s aesthetic subjectivity as the theoretical basis. Du Fu’s Eight Octaves on Autumnal Musings is taken as its research text. The author found that the translation of classical Chinese poetry should not be limited in the language level. The case study and comparative approach are the main research methods used in this thesis. It analyzes different English versions translated by different translators, making a research at the role played by translator’s aesthetic subjectivity in the translation of Du Fu’s poems.The thesis first expounds the connotation of the translator’s subjectivity. It also offers a general exposition on the study of the issue both at home and abroad. Secondly, the thesis mainly focuses on the study of translator’s subjectivity from the perspective of aesthetics. The theories of three aesthetic schools-the Reception Aesthetics. the Expressionist Aesthetics and the Gestalt Psychological Aesthetics are chosen as the theoretical basis. In addition, based on Liu Miqing’s translation aesthetics theory, this thesis will give respective analysis on the subjective factors and objective factors of the aesthetic subject-the translator who is involved in translation. Then, the author will take the theory of aesthetic subjectivity as the basis, analyzing the aesthetic subjectivity reflected in the translation of Eight Octaves on Autumnal Musings(《秋兴八首》)by Du Fu. The analysis aims to explore the significance of the role played by the aesthetic subjectivity in the specific translation process. Finally, the author offers the conclusion of this thesis.
