William Faulkner is a representative author of the America South. His works won the Nobel Prize for Literature in1949. and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, which are the two highest literary awards around the world. The modernist writing techniques of William Faulkner make it very difficult for his readers to understand his works. However, reading his works from the perspective of the American Deep South, especially from the perspective of the traditional Southern Christianity can help readers understand his works better. Light in August and Absalom. Absalom! are two of his masterpieces in his peak period. This thesis attempts to explore how William Faulkner uniquely utilizes Christian elements to demonstrate the literature themes in his works. This thesis consists of three parts. The first part is a research on the Christian influence of the American society and family on William Faulkner. In this section, the author also briefly introduce William Faulkner’s attitude to his religion. Christianity. The second part is to analyze Christian influence on the contents of his works Light in August and Absalom, Absalom!. There are a lot of images in these two works, most of which are in correspondence with Christianity. In the last part, this paper explores Christian themes in Light in August and Absalom. Absalom!. William Faulkner does not only accept the traditional religious values in his works, but also emphasizes another Christian theme which is people should use their freewill to do the right choice even in the difficult time. William Faulkner associates this theme with the special background of American South. To some extent, understanding the meanings of these religious is essential to the interpretation of his novels. William Faulkner does not use those religious elements, such as narrative structure, language, characters, plots and themes in his works in a simply and mechanical way. He uses them to reflect the themes of his works. because these Christianity images often have implicit meanings which are quite helpful to know the author’s real writing intention which is good literature works should reflect the inner conflicts of human beings’hearts.
