In recent years, with the rising of Chinese, teaching Chinese as aforeign language is getting more and more attention. South Korea as a neighbor ofChina, many South Koreans have the demand for learning Chinese language.Various Chinese language school and Chinese learning materials are emerging inendlessly in South Korea. In teaching Chinese to South Korean students, we stillneed further exploration. This paper focuses on the study of teaching Chinesecharacters to Koreans.South Korea has two sets of characters system, one is Chinese character system,and another is Korean characters system created by King Sejong. South Korea’sprimary and middle schools set up Chinese characters curriculum, also organizeChinese characters qualification examination. These study have shown theiradvantageous in learning Chinese characters, but also inevitably have a negativetransfer effects of their own characters. So we should not simply use the samemethods of teaching Chinese characters to Korean students as other countriesstudents. Explore the unique method of Korean Chinese characters teaching is ofpositive significance, also can be generalized to other students in Sino spherecountries.In this paper, the introduction analysis South Korea’s Chinese charactereducation history. The first part introduce the current situation and investigate thereason of the Korean learning Chinese and Chinese characters, then introduce theChinese character qualification examination in South Korea. The second partcontrasts the similarities and differences between Chinese characters in China andin Korea. The third part analyzes the current materials and methods of Chinesecharacter teaching, puts forward the theoretical basis of teaching, and exploreseffective teaching method for Korean students.
