Abstract/Summary:
This thesis proposes a systematic and comprehensive analysis into Ye Yonglie’sbiographical literature as well as its theoretical and practical significance in the developmentof contemporary biographical literature for the first time. It includes the following threechapters together with an introduction and an epilogue.Chapter One: Special significance of the topic. Ye Yonglie’s biographical literature laysgreat emphasis on writing biography about political leaders and intellectuals with high famebut low transparency. The colorful and complex life experiences of the biographees in the"Black" and "red" as well as the "Celebrities" series push the biographers to condense China’smore than fifty years’ history into the descriptions of related biographees’ life experiences,which revives the historical truth and makes it a high level topic with great themes and firsthand materials.Chapter Two: Serious and solemn aspects of the subject. The subject is serious andsolemn because of the choices and descriptions of the biographees as well as the exploringprogress of historical truths by the biographers. First, it is reflected from the tireless, fearlessand brave dedication of the biographers. Besides, it is reflected from the profoundcomprehension and insight of the biographers, which exactly shows the tragic fate of specifichistorical figures while excavating the internal and external causes of their tragedies to revealhistorical truth by real descriptions of historical figures. Last, it is reflected from thearcheological attitude and phenomenal strictness to research literature documents and topursue science and rationality of the biographers.Chapter Three: Creation and diversity of the depiction forms. The organic unity ofdistinctive personality and communion is well realized on biographees of Ye Yonglie’sbiographical literature. Biographers adopt flexible narrating perspectives and artistictechniques of dualistic narration, dramatic skills, poetic descriptions, reasonable imaginationand detailed depictions while freely switching between omniscience and limited platforms tocreate typical figures, which forms the special cultural and historical compatible as well assensibility and rationality mixed literature style. Thus the serious subject and special topic aswell as diversified narrating methods form the integrally dignified, simple, firm, flexible andcoexisted creating style.In short, Ye Yonglie’s biographical literature enriches the documentary literature theoryfrom the aspects of topic extension, artistic forms as well as non-fiction, which contributes a lot to the development of contemporary documentary literature, especially to the biographicalliterature, While some problems worth exploration exist at the same time, such as the overcited historical data in certain works, the ordinary characters of certain figures as well as theprofiling phenomenon and simplification of specific works.
