Drama is a distinctive genre of literature, as well as an important part of worldliterary heritage of various countries. As the greatest dramatist during the period ofthe English Renaissance, Shakespeare enjoys immense prestige and holds a prominentplace in world literature, with his plays all the more a shining pearl.Liang Shiqiu and Zhu Shenghao are the first ones who systematically translatedShakespeare’s works and scored extraordinary achievements as their translations ofShakespeare still remain the most influential and prevailing. This paper purports toprobe into respective translation strategies and characteristics through acomprehensive comparative study of their translations of The Merchant of Venice,with text analysis of the words, sentences and translation style, and further learn fromit about drama translation.
