IntroductionPerceived stress and smoking behavior were the two subjects that most closely related tohuman life. Research has showed that there was a significant relation between perceivedstress and smoking behavior, and the relation was affected by some moderators. The purposeof this study was to investigate the relation between perceived stress and smoking behavior,and the moderating effect of coping strategies and health beliefs in this relation amongcollege students, teachers, medical personnel and military police.Methods600subjects in Heilongjiang province and Anhui provincewere recruited by random clustersampling method. Four self report questionnaires included Chinese14-item Perceived StressScale(CPSS),Smoking Behavior Questionnaire,Cope Strategies Scale and Smoking HealthBeliefs Scale were administrated to explore the relations among Perceived Stress,CopingStrategies、Health Beliefs and Smoking Behavior. All data were analyzed by T-test ofindependent, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and Regression analysis.Results&ConclusionsThe results of this study are summarized as follows:(1)Each two of the four variables which are Perceived Stress、 Coping Strategies、HealthBeliefs and Smoking Behavior showed significant correlation. Perceived Stress and CopingStrategies’s dimensions included problem solving and help were showed significantnegative correlation.Perceived Stress and Coping Strategies’s dimensions included self-blame,fantasy, withdrawal and rationalization were showed significant Positive correlation.(2)Smoking Behavior and Coping Strategies’s dimensions included problem solving andhelp were showed significant negative correlation.Smoking Behavior and CopingStrategies’s dimensions included self-blame were showed significant Positive correlation.(3)Smoking Behavior and Health Beliefs’s dimensions included perceived susceptibility,perceived severity, perceived benefit and perceived barriers were showed significantcorrelation.(4)Perceived Stress,Coping Strategies,Health Beliefs could predict Smoking Behavior of these four occupation groups.(5)Coping Strategies’s dimensions included problem solving and help moderates therelationship between Perceived Stress and Smoking Behavior.Health Beliefs moderates therelationship between Perceived Stress and Smoking Behavior.
