Abstract:Twelve Towers is a collection of short simulating colloquial stories completed in about Shunzhi Dynasty. It was written by Li Yu,who is writer and dramatist in the seventeenth century. Twelve Towers is regarded as one of the best novels in the Qing Dynasty. It vividly described a wide range of social life in the late Ming and early Qing and fully reflected the face of the language of this period.It has important value to the early Qing Dynasty Chinese studies.This thesis studies127conjunctions in Twelve Towers.Firstly,the conjunctions of Twelve Towers can be divided into ten categories: juxtaposition, succession, choice, progression, assumptions, conditions,concessions, cause-effect, purpose. And these ten categories can be attribute to coordinating-related or modifying-related conjunctions. Secondly, this thesis uses the method of statistics measurement to comprehensively investigate the conjunctions. It has analysed the syllable structure of the conjunctions in the text by examples.Lastly, the thesis has made overall analysis of the conjunctions of Twelve Towers from four aspects:number, period, usage and contrast.At the same time, It has listed the examples of the conjunctions used in Complex Sentences.This thesis depicts the overall picture of conjunctions and the characteristics of the usage and distribution of them with statistic diagrams,it expected to provide certain reference for the conjunction research of modern Chinese.
