A Phraseology Study Of The Collocational Framework BE~*to In Academic Texts

The study of collocational framework by Renouf and Sinclair, as the beginning of the research about discontinuous lexical combinations, supplements the neglected investigation of discontinuous lexical combination in traditional lexical studies and plays an important role in phraseology. Inspired by the enlightening studies of Renouf and Sinclair as well as other linguists, this study tends to investigate the usage of one particular collocational framework BE*to in four different disciplines of academic texts.With a corpus-based research approach and the theory of discourse system, this thesis conducts an analysis of the collocational framework BE*to and its intermediate collocates in four disciplines of academic texts in order to explore the features of this particular framework in academic discourse and offer some references and help for academic writing. This thesis consists of five chapters:Chapter One gives a brief introduction about the research background, significance and aims; Chapter Two reviews studies about collocational framework and describes the structure of discourse system; Chapter Three introduces investigated materials, analyzing tools and research procedures; Chapter Four discusses the results of collocational framework BE*to and its intermediate collocates in four disciplines of academic texts; Chapter Five is about the summary of the study and the existing limitations.
